Clear writing at work
This interactive activity focuses on common problems in workplace writing, including jargon, over-formal language and unnecessary complexity.
The activity opens on a grid of nine topics. Selecting a tile reveals a short example of weak writing, followed by revised versions in UK and US English. A reset control returns the view to the grid, allowing another topic to be selected without retracing steps.

Interaction is limited to choosing a topic and switching between examples. There is no menu or secondary navigation, keeping attention on comparison rather than exploration.
The visual layout is simple and consistent across all topics. Tiles and buttons are used throughout, with spacing and alignment doing most of the organisational work.
Accessibility is handled through structure and predictable behaviour. The introductory text is announced once on entry and not repeated when returning to the grid. Focus order follows the visual layout, all controls are labelled, and decorative elements are hidden from assistive technologies. Keyboard navigation is fully supported, with visible focus indicators.
Short audio cues play on selection to confirm action. Sound is secondary and can be ignored without affecting use.
The activity is intended to be completed quickly or revisited in short bursts, as a reference for recognising and revising common writing patterns.
