Birdsong

This interactive activity focuses on recognising birdsong through listening and simple visual comparison. The structure prioritises sound over speed, with short audio sequences and limited interaction to keep attention on the task.

People listen to a bird call and identify it from a small set of illustrated options, using sound and visual detail rather than speed or testing.

The visual language draws on natural history illustration from the seventeenth to nineteenth centuries. Artwork is adapted for screen use, with limited colour and restrained motion so attention stays on listening.

The opening screen pairs a short animation with birdsong to establish the listening task. Movement is minimal and secondary to the audio.

Accessibility is handled through predictable structure and keyboard-operable controls. Audio playback, focus order and labelling support screen readers, with decorative elements hidden from assistive technologies.

This activity works best on a computer or laptop, where all interactive elements and visuals are easy to access.
